Men's Mental Health

Is it still a man’s world? In business? Yes, very much so! How many C-Suite executives are men? How many of them openly discuss their mental health and well-being? Maybe some, but they are the anomaly.

In the last few decades, traditional and unhealthy masculine stances have been blatantly challenged in many fields, such as fashion and entertainment, allowing us to see the “softer” side of men and normalizing the expression of emotion. ‘Manning up’ hasn’t left the stage, not completely, not in the corporate world, anyway. According to the latest Forbes online survey results, 48% of the participants expressed their intention to improve their fitness this year, while approximately 36% stated their desire to focus on enhancing their mental health. Sounds pretty basic, doesn’t it? While this data specifically pertains to the United States, I’m confident that these two goals find a place on almost everyone’s New Year’s resolutions or to-do lists worldwide.

Ever wonder why these seemingly straightforward habits appear to be the heaviest lifts of life for many people around the globe? Maybe it’s because our natural inclination is to focus on the goal rather than the habit. Hmm, you might be questioning the distinction between the two…
